Unboxing DIORIVIERA—the captivating French fragrance from Dior Beauty. DIOR x Beverly Hills Hotel: A Spectacular Summer Soirée

It was nothing short of an absolute pleasure to attend the most spectacular summer soirée, hosted by the House of Dior and the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel—in celebration of the life and legend of hâute couturier Christian Dior, and three exquisite Dior Beauty fragrances from La Collection Privée.

With a carefully curated masterpiece of a menu that paid homage to the fêted French fashion designer’s historical heritage and gastronomic preferences, and a perfect pairing of pours to complement the Mediterranean coastal cuisine’s fresh flavors, with nods to its most luxurious locales (while mindfully incorporating the top notes of each fabulous fragrance) this seasonal supper was truly a feast for (all of ) the senses.

The al fresco affair was hosted in the hotel’s private garden, kicking off with a welcome glass of Ruinart Blanc de Blanc as guests entered the peaceful patio of the storied and stuccoed pink palace, taking seats at a beautiful banquet table dressed with an elegant spray of pink florals and twinkling tea lights.

Dior’s lovely fragrance ambassador guided us along an olfactory journey, punctuated with a dreamy description of each of the three scents—DIORIVIERIA, EDEN-ROC, and JASMIN DES ANGES—with a spritz for each of us, illustrating the timeless tales of Christian Dior’s remarkable life as a purveyor of sartorial elegance, and his indelible imprint on contemporary couture—while the hotel’s cherished chefs elegantly described the flavors and ingredients of each course, and our sommelier explained the taste profile and purposeful pairing of each selected wine, making for a marvelous melange and merging of flavor and fragrance.

The Beverly Hills Hotel’s celebrated chefs prepared an exquisite culinary experience that commenced with a light and creamy chilled Vichyssoise (a summer soup blending potatoes, leeks and onion—originally imagined by the Head Chef of the Ritz Carlton in New York City, Louis Diat, in the early 20th century) accompanied by a truffle petit croque for decadent dipping.

Moving on to the next savory sensation—and perhaps my favorite flavor of the evening—a perfect petit choux (puff pastry) injected with lemon and chive-whipped crème fraîche, topped with a generous garnish of caviar and edible gold leaf—for the pinnacle of a presentation that was truly la pièce de résistance.

Next came a sweet summer salad of grilled peaches and goat cheese on a nest of arugula, drizzled with lavender honey and sprinkled with marcona almonds, paired with a zesty New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

For our entrée, we diners beheld a beautiful Branzino fillet, dotted with heirloom cherry tomatoes, zante currants, and pine nuts, in a lemon caper sauce. The hotel’s supreme sommelier selected a 2021 Clos de Lambrays from Morey-Saint-Denis.

Concluding the culinary coup was a traditional Tropézienne—individualized with spongy halves of brioche sandwiching juicy raspberries and rich crème pâtissière, topped with a light dusting of sugar. Equally moist and marvelous, with a swallow of sweet Sauternes —a robust dessert wine—from Chateau d’Yquem.

As a parting gift, each guest was gifted a generous full-size bottle of DIORIVIERA to keep and unbox at home—which you can also watch here.

Christian Dior Spring/Summer 2022: The Return of Haute Couture

New year, new couture.

The Christian Dior Spring/Summer 2022 Haute Couture show took Paris by storm on January 24th, with the unveiling of a new collection by celebrated creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri.

The illustrious Musée Rodin became a living work of art, as the new 65-piece collection hit the runway, framed by a colorful backdrop depicting works by Indian artists Madhvi and Manu Parekh. The large-scale design was transformed into a 340 square-meter embroidery installation, crafted by 380 students from the ateliers of the Chanakya School in Mumbai—cementing the institution’s third collaboration with the House of Dior.

Falling within the parameters of a neutral grayscale palette, Chiuri’s latest cache of couture revealed a dynamic display of silky silhouettes, dazzling unitards, deconstructed suits, and separates topped with structured capes. The line featured fine fabrics like organza, tulle, and chiffon, with moments of elegant embroidery and embellishment, ranging primarily in tones of ecru, sand, and ivory, as well as shades of black and gray.

Bienvenue to the Non-Summer Summer

Bienvenue to the Non-Summer Summer: Dissh boutique off-the-shoulder petite robe blanche

Bienvenue to the Non-Summer Summer

While some realists probably had a sense that Summer 2020 would look vastly different than usual, many hopefuls (myself included) were optimistic back in the early days of the Covid scramble that a few weeks of lockdown would do the trick, and we’d be back to our regularly scheduled programming by early summer. It seemed like a piece of cake to spend a few weeks, well, eating cake and other comfort snacks—because what else was there to do, really?—as well as carve out some dedicated time to online shopping.

With all the theoretical money we’d be saving by staying inside for a few weeks—ha!—it seemed like the perfect time to get our summer wardrobes in order. Packages would be delivered, clothes properly hung on wooden hangers, and on display in our well-organized and Marie Kondo-approved closets, with plenty of time to color coordinate our shelves and lose said cake weight by the time the gyms, pilates classes, and (for me) dance studios, reopened again.

Alas, here we are, officially into July, and in Los Angeles, back to semi-lock down after a two-week reopening tease. However, packages were in fact delivered (a little delayed, but hey), clothes were hung (albeit sometimes just flung over a chair) and the summer wardrobe did have time to develop, even with no place to wear any of it.

Dissh Boutique

I recently discovered Dissh boutique, an Australian brand that has quickly become one of my favorites—Aussies seriously know what they’re doing when it comes to summer style—with its mid-level pricing and fabrics that feel good on the skin.

This stunning, off-the-shoulder petite robe blanche surprised me with its beautiful, airy movement, despite a rich and heavy linen texture and midi length. I wandered around the deserted Landmark theater marquee in Westwood, feeling like a nostalgic screen goddess, pondering the bizarre ambiance that is summer in Los Angeles this year.

Let’s also not forget the vintage Dior baguette I scored from one of my all time favorite discoveries of the year, She’s Parisian. Curated by Zoe March, a young British Francophile with an impeccable eye for aesthetics, the collection is an array of antique and vintage findings— think everything from retro pearls and china teacups to jeweled hair combs and and vintage designer perfume bottles— styled in the most luxurious and lust-worthy ways. When I saw this sleek semi clutch (it has a thin strap for a handle, but feels better tucked under an elbow) with its signature D logo dangling in pearl, I knew it had to be mine.
